WHEN IS GTA 6 OUT? TAKE-TWO CONFIRMS 2025 RELEASE DATE

In some tentatively positive news for Grand Theft Auto fans, the sixth main installment is set for release in autumn 2025.

As part of a Securities and Exchange Commission report, publisher Take-Two Interactive has reaffirmed its plan to release GTA 6 in mid-late 2025, as spotted by Insider Gaming

Rockstar Games continues to invest in the franchise and plans to release Grand Theft Auto VI in the Fall of calendar 2025,” the report reads.

GTA maker Rockstar Games is a developer subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive Software, alongside Zynga, Private Division and 2K Games.

This contradicts recent reports and rumours GTA 6 will be delayed until 2026.

It is far too early to say the game won't face a delay; we can only confirm that no official postponement has been announced.

Earlier this week, former Rockstar Games technical director Obbe Vermeij suggested the game’s release date may not be final until as little as four months before its scheduled launch.

“The decision to delay gtaIV was made 4 months or so before the original release date. Any further and it's hard to make the call. R* is probably not in a position to determine whether they will hit 2025 until May-ish,” Vermeij posted on X, formerly Twitter.

“They are not going to release the game until they're 100 per cent happy with it. No matter what it said in the trailer.”

Regardless, a publicly traded company such as Take-Two Interactive Software will want to carefully control messaging around GTA 6’s release to curate the best outcome for its stock value.

It, and Rockstar Games, have some reason to be cagey about the massively anticipated title. Not only does it have multi-billion dollar expectations to fulfil, but footage of a pre-Alpha build of the game was also leaked in 2022 — a game developer nightmare.

Since then, Rockstar Games has released only a single video trailer for the game, in December 2023. The video has attracted more than 210 million views on YouTube, becoming the fastest non-music video to reach 50 million views. It took just under 10 hours for it to hit that milestone.

By the time of GTA 6’s release, we will, short of a major industry disaster, have the Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5 Pro to play on.

However, Take-Two Interactive Software has only confirmed the game is coming to “PlayStation 5 computer entertainment systems and Xbox Series X|S games and entertainment systems” to date.
