JAMES CLEVERLY ACCIDENTALLY SLIPS THAT CONSERVATIVES COULD BE ‘LEAVING’ TODAY

Home secretary James Cleverly made a Freudian slip during one of his final interviews before the General Election - accidentally suggesting the Conservatives could be “leaving” after today.

Appearing on Peston, Mr Cleverly was quizzed over whether the party would be “leaving a poisonous legacy”, when he responded too soon: “We are leaving...sorry, we went into this election with a solid economic place.”

However, despite the blunder, he went on to defend the government’s track record, including criminals serving longer sentences.
