MURDER INVESTIGATION AFTER MAN FOUND DEAD NEAR EXCLUSIVE PRIVATE ESTATE

A murder investigation has been launched after a man was found dead in a quiet lane leading to an exclusive private estate.

Detectives said this afternoon, March 22, that a 36-year-old man is in custody following his arrest on suspicion of murder.

They said police had been called to the scene in Plymouth following reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian.

Earlier today a spokesperson for the South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust sasid they were called at 8.46pm on Tuesday night regarding an incident in Plymouth, understood to be in Leigham Manor Drive.

They stated that the service sent "two double-crewed land ambulances, a doctor, an operations officer and a critical care car".

Devon and Cornwall Police said they were alerted to the incident a short while later at 8.55pm.

A search of the area was carried out and police located a vehicle suspected of being involved in the incident at nearby Marsh Mills retail park.

Cordons were put in place in Leigham Manor Drive and at the retail park's Costa Coffee cafe since the early hours, reports Plymouth Live.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Police were called at around 8.55pm last night [21 March] to Leigham Manor Drive, Plymouth, following reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian.

"The pedestrian, a local man in his 40s, was confirmed deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

"It was reported that the vehicle left the scene and was located in the Marsh Mills retail park at a short time later. The vehicle has been seized by officers.

"A 36-year-old man from Plymouth was arrested last night on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody last night."

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Ilona Rosson, said: "Following enquiries last night, one man remains in police custody and we are not seeking anyone else in connection to this matter.

"Cordons remain in place today whilst our enquiries are ongoing, and members of the public will see an increased police presence in the area today.

"I would ask that anyone who has any information, relevant dash cam or CCTV footage which may assist our investigation, to report it to us."
