MAN UTD HANDED DOUBLE INJURY BOOST AS DUO RETURN TO TRAINING

Rasmus Hojlund could be in contention to return for Manchester United this weekend after returning to training on Wednesday.

The Denmark international is still to play this season after suffering a hamstring injury against Arsenal in the club’s tour of the US in July.

It was initially expected the 21-year-old would return following September’s international break but the striker missed games against Southampton and Barnsley.

United head to south east London on Saturday evening to take on Crystal Palace and Hojlund could be in line to make his first appearance of the season after rejoining his teammates at United’s training base at Carrington.

Alongside him was Mason Mount, who is thought to have recovered from a fresh muscle injury quicker than expected.

Mount managed just eight starting appearances in his injury-hit debut campaign at Old Trafford but featured prominently during United’s pre-season tour of the US.

The 25-year-old did enough to earn a place in the first-team at the start of the new season, starting United’s first two league matches against Fulham and Brighton.

Injury struck again, however, with Mount revealing before this month’s clash with Liverpool he had suffered another muscle problem.

The former Chelsea star could be available before the end of the month with United’s early season injury problems beginning to ease.

Luke Shaw is another who has not featured this season with ten Hag suggesting this week there is still no definitive timeline for his return.

The left-back, who played twice for England at Euro 2024, has not played for his club since February with a calf injury his latest issue.

‘First, Luke Shaw, he’s progressing but not ready yet to be selected,’ ten Hag said on Monday.

‘Of course, we have a plan in our head when he can be ready but you are always dependent on how the progress will go. You can’t think, you can’t make a suggestion [of a return date] because there are so many factors why a plan can accelerate or slow down.’
