MAN WHO JAY SLATER STAYED AT TENERIFE AIRBNB WITH ISSUES CHILLING 12-WORD STATEMENT

A man staying at the same Airbnb as missing teenager Jay Slater has finally broken his silence about the night before his disappearance. The 19-year-old disappeared a fortnight ago after leaving the accommodation, and despite extensive searches in the rugged regions of Spain's Tenerife northwest, authorities called off their search efforts last Sunday.

Jay had stayed the night at the remote property in the village Masca with two people he had met at a festival. After leaving the next morning, Jay phoned his friend Lucy Law saying he had missed a bus back to the south and that he was going to walk but he didn't have much water or phone battery.

Now, one of the men who was at the Airbnb has spoken out in an interview with MailOnline. Ayub Abdul, who booked the accommodation under the name Qassim, said he invited Jay back as he had got separated from his friends.

And in a powerful statement he said: "He came to my Airbnb alive and he left my Airbnb alive." Mr Abdul is reported to have stayed for extra day on the holiday island to help with the search has returned to the UK but is believed to have spoken with Spanish authorities to help with their investigation.

Mr Qassim also said: "I let the geezer stay at mine because he had nowhere else to go, his friends had all left him. I know Jay, through friends, I'm not going to bring someone back to mine if I don't know them. I'm doing the geezer a favour and now my face is all over the news. It's a bit mental. I haven't even done anything." He refuted any claims of a dispute with Jay.

Ex-British police detective Mark Williams-Thomas questioned why Jay didn't return to the Airbnb to charge his phone or get some water, noting that the teen had "posted a Snapchat saying that he'd taken a £12,000 Rolex from a person", believed to be linked to an incident at the rave.

Mr Williams-Thomas added: "We've received information that would suggest that Jay left the rental property feeling scared and he would not return to the rental, even though that would have been the most sensible course of action."

He also mentioned in the video that "we've been unable to validate this in terms of a reported theft" but highlighted: "However, friends of Jay said he would not make this up and the watch was subject of later conversation between the friends."

Detailing Jay's movements on the day he went missing, Mr Williams-Thomas, known for his work on prominent missing persons cases, said: "The evidence is that Jay walked off on the rental, walked for about 30 minutes, and then sent his location at 8.49am and 8.50am. And we know that he was at that stage off the road on a track with loose stones."
