DRIVERS URGED TO MOVE CAR AND HIDE DOCUMENTS THIS WEEKEND

UK households are being advised to relocate their vehicles and secure important documents such as the V5C logbook and insurance cover in light of severe weather predictions for this weekend. The Met Office has forecasted heavy rainfall across parts of the UK, with a yellow weather warning in effect from Saturday through Sunday.

A significant portion of England and Wales, including London, Nottingham, Birmingham, most of Yorkshire, Bath, Cardiff, Norwich, all of the Midlands, and Devon and Cornwall, fall under the yellow weather warning for intense rain. This warning commences at 9pm on Saturday, September 7, and lasts until 6pm on Sunday.

The Met Office has cautioned: "Areas of heavy, possibly thundery rain may cause flooding and disruption in parts of England and Wales on Saturday night and Sunday."

They added that there is a slight risk of power outages and service disruptions to some homes and businesses, and a small possibility that properties could be flooded, resulting in damage to some buildings. "Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures. There is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life."

"Whilst there remains some uncertainty with exact details, areas of heavy and at times thundery rain are expected to spread north, then west, across England and Wales from this evening and overnight. These areas of heavy rain may become more persistent across western areas during Sunday daytime whilst slow-moving heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely to develop further east.", reports The Express.

The Met Office has issued guidance on how to stay safe during potential flooding, offering several essential tips for residents.

Motorists are advised to relocate their vehicles to higher ground before the onset of heavy rain, while homeowners should safeguard their valuables, including important documents, by placing them in elevated positions to avoid water damage.

The advice includes: "Check the flood advice in your area to know when and where flooding will happen. Charge mobile phone devices. Park your car outside the flood zone. Prepare a flood kit to help you cope in the event of flooding to your home and business. Store valuables up high, including electrical devices, important documents and furniture. Turn off gas water and electricity supplies."
