BELARUS STATES DEPLOYMENT OF ANTI-AIRCRAFT MISSILE BATTALION ON UKRAINE BORDER - ISW

Belarus has announced the deployment of the Polonez multiple launch rocket system battalion on the border with Ukraine, citing a purportedly complex situation. This could be Russia's attempt to increase its military presence in Belarus, informs the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

On Friday, June 28, the Ministry of Defense of Belarus announced the purported deployment of the Polonez multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border in response to a "complex situation" and as part of a sudden readiness check.

According to analysts from ISW, this escalation of activity in Belarus could be Russia's effort to increase its military presence there and further integrate Belarus into favorable frameworks for Russia, including the activities of the Wagner Group on Belarusian territory.
