Flood threat from Highest tides of the year, fistral Bay, cornwall, UK

Highest tides of the year witnessed in Cornwall Met Office warns Flooding is possible across large parts of Cornwall through till Monday. Weather Experts have warned Cornwall is set to face the 'Highest tides of the year' with flooding possible across the county. Coastal areas are at risk of flooding today Thursday, September 19 as the UK experiences higher than usual tides, brought on by the rare occurrence of the alignment of the full moon, sun and earth. Spectators, surfers, and visitors gather on the beach at Newquay for the natural spectacle. Spring tides occur twice a month (and not necessarily just in spring) and cause high tides to be higher than usual. The Environment Agency predicts tides in Cornwall will be 0.03m above tide table level and may well cause flooding along coastal communities. Six flood alerts have been issued across Cornwall, covering the county from Penzance in the West to Looe in the East. Flood alerts mean flooding is possible in the area and local residents should prepare to act if necessary, Sandbags have been provided by the Council in areas expected to flood
